One of France's most rugged regions, Brittany is a fascinating mix of spectacular coastline, ancient towns, magical islands and inland woods. A Celtic duchy for more than one thousand years before its annexation to France in 1532, it is a land rich in culture, tradition and history.

 

The area is well known for its stunning beaches, picturesque towns and villages. There is plenty to do with lots of beautiful walks, a good choice of golf courses, sailing, fishing, walking, cycling and of course enjoying the many fabulous restaurants that the area has to offer.

The French Riviera

With the Alps playing bodyguard against inland winds and the sultry Mediterranean warming the breezes, the Côte d'Azur, or French Riviera, is pampered by a nearly tropical climate. This is where the dreamland of azure waters and indigo sky begins, where balustrade white villas edge the blue horizon, evening air is perfumed with jasmine and mimosa, and parasol pines silhouette against sunsets of ripe apricot and gold. The rivers wind their way along the valleys, wandering first this way then that in a series of picturesque meanders.

 

 

 

 

Languedoc – Roussillon

More than 180 km mostly uninterrupted fine sand beaches stretches from the Rhône to the Pyrenees. They confine with the romantic rocky coastline of the Côte Vermeille in the South and the equally attractive Camargue in the East.

The Massif Central marks the northwestern borders of the départements of Gard, Hérault, and Aude.  It also extends into the département of Lozère.  The plain of Languedoc faces the Mediterranean.  The plain of Roussillon is to the southwest.  It is separated from the plain of Languedoc by the Corbières mountains.  The Pyrénées mountains are to the south.  A Mediterranean climate prevails along the coast and a mountain climate is found in Lozère and the Pyrénées. 

 

 

Loire

Cognac Countryside

When you are looking for old world charm combined with perfect scenery and glorious beaches, you will find them right here.

This popular region of France is renowned for its glorious sandy beaches and forests which stretch virtually unbroken along the coastline from St Jean-de-Monts to La Tranche-sur-Mer.

It is still predominantly an agricultural area and is home to many fishing ports both on the coast and on the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier. South of La Roche-sur-Yon, the region’s capital, is the Marais Poitevin Regional Park. This is an area of beautiful marshes with a network of canals surrounded by woods, dotted with bourines, traditional white-washed, thatched houses.

Also typical of the Vendée are the watermills and windmills you will find across the region. The region stretches almost as far south as La Rochelle and includes several bustling seaside resorts such as Les Sables d’Olonne and La Tranche-sur-Mer.
